Atoka’s Hannah Vanderburg – Athlete Spotlight

By Chance Burk

For Hannah Vanderburg, a graduating Atoka High School senior, glory means more than winning state medals or signing to run Division I track.

It’s all an opportunity glorify God.

Hannah Vanderburg, an Oral Roberts University track and cross country signee,

placed fourth in the 3A girls 800m this spring and qualified in the 1600m. She also played basketball and participated in student council at AHS.

“Training and running is a part of my daily routine. I normally spend about an hour and a half every day of the week running and doing workouts,” Vanderburg said.

Much the disciplined athlete, Vanderburg also found success in the classroom as she maintained a 4.0 GPA while taking concurrent classes. She calls herself a “perfectionist” when it comes to schoolwork.

But the biggest part of Hannah’s life remains her faith. Her parents, Roy and Michelle, are pastors.

“I have always grown up around ministry and have had a personal relationship with God since I was young,” Hannah said. “Everything in my life is because of Him, and track is something I can do to glorify Him.”

Vanderburg plans to pursue a degree in health and exercise science in college then become a PA or pursue another career within sports medicine. She is very dedicated in every part of her life and plans to use the hard work and dedication she has learned to her advantage as she works to create a successful life for herself.
