9 Questions with Hugo’s Marley Barnett – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Kiamichi Family Medical Center

VYPE: What sports do you play?

Marley Barnett: Softball.

VYPE: What positions do you play?

MB: Pitcher, third base, first base, short stop and outfield.

VYPE: What motivates you?

MB: My coach, my family, my teammates and the passion I have for the game.

VYPE: Who are some of your biggest influences or role models?

MB: One of my biggest role models in the game is my coach, Heather Bunn. She came into Hugo and has already created a bigger system for us than any other coach has. Her drive and the dedication she has for me is unmatched, she’ll be the reason I get to play college ball one day.

VYPE: What has it taken to be successful in your sports?

MB: To be successful in my career, it’s taken a lot of hard work and drive. Not giving up or letting coaches ruin your love for the game and trying to become better day by day.

VYPE: What has been the highlight moment of your career?

MB: People telling me how successful I could actually be in the sport, if I continued working hard and how I’m only a freshman with so much talent.

VYPE: Which teammate do you enjoy working against the most with in practice?

MB: Probably Alley Ivey, she’s my best friend in softball. We’re almost on the same level, it is challenging for us to work against each other because we’re both good at things we do. But we do what we need to and accomplish our own goals without creating a negative impact on each other.

VYPE: What are your plans after high school?

MB: My plans after high school are to attended college for a softball scholarship and become an elementary teacher, mainly specializing in special education.

VYPE: What does it mean to you to represent your school and community when you play?

MB: It means a lot to me that when I go out there and play for Hugo, I am representing how good our coaches really are and how hard they work for us to all be successful. To show that Hugo has a strong, positive softball program.
