Antlers’ Chandler Joslin – Football Spotlight – Presented by McCurtain County National Bank

CHANDLER JOSLIN-ANTLERS

As the Antlers Bearcats enter the football playoffs and his football career winds down, senior Chandler Joslin took some time to reminisce about his football playing days at Antlers from the beginning.

“My uncle played football, and my parents got me into it when I was in third grade. I also play baseball, but I like football best because I get to hit people,” Chandler laughed. “I play on both sides of the ball, but I probably like playing offense a little more.”

Chandler has been a three-year starter for coach Dustin Beasley and his versatility has been a big asset according to the head coach.

“He’s our do-it-all guy. He’s our best running back but he can also play receiver. On defense he’ll play anything from safety to cornerback to linebacker. He’s a competitor that leads the team with toughness and physicality. He challenges the guys to play harder and stay focused and then shows them how to do it himself. That’s why he’s such an integral part of what we do.”

When it comes to role models, Chandler picked a guy who runs the football the way coach Beasley describes Chandler in Baltimore’s Derrick Henry.

“He’s big and tough and just runs over people,” chuckled Chandler who is also involved in student council, National Honor Society and Business Professionals of America at school.

Although he’s played football in high school for four years, Joslin says the highlight of his career didn’t come until the last game of the regular season this year in a 52-19 win over Spiro.

“I rushed for 177 yards and four touchdowns, so it was a pretty special game,” said Chandler.

As a team leader, Joslin strives to keep the team pumped up and focused but also tries to help out the more inexperienced teammates as best he can.

“For the receivers I’ll try to teach them about releases and for the running backs I’ll talk to them about good ball carrying techniques.”

Chandler Joslin hopes to play college football somewhere next year or if not, go to college and become a civil engineer and would like to be remembered as someone that was a good football player, a good teammate and someone that people could look up to.
