Clayton Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs Basketball Teams – Presented by Pine Cellular

CLAYTON BULLDOGS

BOYS

SHAWN MCGLONE

13-12

Shawn McGlone is the latest in what has been a revolving door of coaches at Clayton over the past few years. And with the graduation of seven players, he knows this will be a challenging year.

“We’re starting over, building chemistry and going from the foundation up with a new system and new coach.”

The player with the most experience returning for the Bulldogs is senior captain Braiden Wynn.

“Braiden got a lot of playing time last year. He’s a big kid who can jump out of the gym and a guy I’ll want to have the ball in his hands a lot this year,” said McGlone. “Another guy I’m counting on is Eli Bray. He’s another senior who got good minutes last year and I expect him to have a double-double every game and be a lockdown defender for us. These two are great mentors for our younger players because they know what it’s like to go through a coaching transition.”

Other players that will propel the Bulldogs this year are seniors Jaiken Vanderburg and Calvin Palmer, juniors Logan Gee, Brandon Morris and Luke Bray, sophomore Ty Atchley and freshmen Rowdy Vanderburg, Curt Gray, Kassen Hammon and Zayne Wynn.

GIRLS

BJ BEAIRD

5-16

Like the boys, the girls at Clayton have seen several new coaches over the year and BJ Beaird enters his second season has the Lady “Dogs boss. After a rough transition season in 2023, Beaird is looking for improvement this year.

We’ve got four seniors and a junior that will be starting for us. We’ll be more experienced but still need to find more consistency. The two players we’ll rely on the most are Jessea Stowell, our point guard, and Emily Oldham. Jessea is a good ball handler with a high basketball IQ while Emily is a good outside shooter who we’ll play both inside and outside. She’s a hard worker who does anything you ask of her offensively and defensively. Both are very quick and athletic.”

Other players that Beaird will be counting on include Amberlyn Cranford who started some last year, Gracee Weathers and Keagan Davidson who both battled knee injuries last year and Racey Rosebure who Beaird calls a strong sixth player who will probably start some as well.
