Antlers’ Keaton Kellum – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by McCurtain County National Bank

For Keaton Kellum, baseball began at six years old when he stepped onto a tee-ball field and discovered his love for the game. “Baseball is a game of failure, and from failure, you learn,” Keaton shares. That lesson has stuck with him throughout his career, shaping his approach both on and off the field.

The Antlers senior plays an essential role on his team, though he’s quick to defer to his coaches. “My specific role on the team is whatever coach tells me to do,” Keaton says. His preparation reflects his dedication. “I do the extra hard work and focus on the little things to get ready,” he adds.

This year, Keaton expects team chemistry to be just as strong as it was last season. “We’ve got a lot of talent and some younger players that are gonna step up this year,” he explains. For Keaton, the goal for the season is simple but meaningful: “To have some fun, hit nukes with my friends, and make it further than we did last year.”

Keaton’s training routine emphasizes fundamentals and repetition. “A typical week is usually getting a lot of cuts in the cage, fieldwork on the field, and team practices,” he says. That hard work has paid off in memorable moments, like hitting a 400-foot home run at regionals in Okmulgee or being part of the team’s nine home-run day against Tishomingo.

Looking ahead, Keaton plans to attend OSU IT for surveying and civil engineering, though he’s undecided about continuing sports. “I’ll just have to see what happens,” he says. Regardless, he’s confident about his future. “In five years, I see myself as a good, hardworking person, whether it’s in sports or not. I just have to trust God’s plan.”

Keaton’s gratitude for his support system is clear. “I’d like to thank my parents, my coaches, and my teammates for always believing in me and pushing me to do my best in everything I do. All the glory to God,” he says. His advice for younger players? “Don’t overthink it—work as hard and as much as you can, and always put God first.”

For Keaton, the chance to play ball with his best friends and represent the supportive Antlers community is what makes it all worthwhile.
