Atoka’s Remington Hendon – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Stuteville Ford of Atoka

Every athlete remembers their beginnings, and for Remington Hendon, it started when he joined a T-ball team at the age of five. “I started playing baseball at the age of five by joining this T-ball team in my hometown, Coalgate, which is just a few miles north of my current school, Atoka High School,” he explained. Now a freshman, Remington is excited to make his mark as a dedicated catcher for the Atoka High School baseball team.

“My role on the baseball team is catcher,” Remington shared. While some players have intricate routines to prepare for their position, Remington keeps it simple. “I don’t really prepare for my position before games. I usually just stretch my arms and legs and then go play catch.”

Remington attributes much of his passion for baseball to the people around him. “My biggest influencer is my longtime best friend, Tagus Horton. He’s helped me with my baseball career ever since I was six up to fourteen. He always told us players, ‘Go win the fight! Never lay down to anybody!’”

This season, Remington is optimistic about his team’s potential. “My hopes and goals for this season are to win enough games to go to playoffs, be positive on the field, and learn from our losses,” he said. He also values the chemistry his team shares. “My team’s chemistry is very strong this season. We always pick each other up when we are down on the field.”

One of Remington’s most memorable moments in baseball came last season. “My most memorable moment from last season is when my team won our annual wood bat tournament. We fought long and hard for the championship and pulled out the win in the last three innings.”

Off the field, Remington enjoys working, hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends and family. As he looks ahead, his plans are clear. “My plans after graduating high school are to play baseball in college. If I can’t play baseball in college, I will probably get my welder’s or diesel mechanic’s degree and find somewhere to work from there.”

Remington credits his success to his support system, saying, “I would like to thank my friends, family, and my coaches for everything they have done throughout my baseball career.”
