Madill’s Dahlia Marris – Softball Spotlight – Presented by First United Bank of Madill

When Dahlia Marris reflects on her softball career, it’s not just the wins or stats that come to mind—it’s the relationships. “I love meeting new people and making new friends everywhere I go,” said the Madill High School senior. Her ability to connect with others has made her a key part of her team both on and off the field.

Dahlia’s introduction to slow-pitch softball in high school was a pivotal moment. “I thought it would be something fun and different,” she said. Encouraged by her parents, who are her biggest influences, she embraced the challenge. “Those two always give me everything I need to succeed, and they never give up when something is hard.”

This season, Dahlia found joy in the camaraderie her team shared. “My team bonded really great. If someone made a mistake, there would already be someone picking them up, making sure they had their back.” As a senior, Dahlia made it her mission to lead by example. “I know I need to be a good teammate, and I have to remember that there’s always someone looking up to me.”

Preparation is key for Dahlia and her team. “Mondays and Wednesdays, we do stuff on the field. Tuesdays and Thursdays, we do workouts in the cages. Most Fridays, we’ll either play a fun game that involves softball or do inner squad,” she explained. This routine keeps her focused, even when challenges arise. “The most challenging thing probably has to be staying positive when things go downhill. It’s hard, but you have to learn to not lay down and give up.”

Looking ahead, Dahlia is excited about her future in softball and education. “I’m going to play for two years at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, Oklahoma, while I get my basics done. Then I’ll transfer out to play for another four years and get a degree in kinesiology to be a physical therapist.”

As she prepares to leave Madill High School, Dahlia remains grateful for her journey and the community that has supported her. “Knowing we have that support makes us enjoy playing in front of them.”
