Malachi Brooks has always been known for his athleticism, but his ability to jump has set him apart. “I’ve always been known for being extremely athletic or being able to jump very high,” he said. Track became a natural fit for him at an early age, following in the footsteps of his athletic family. “I started my sport in elementary. My whole family are athletes, and I did track because most of them did.” Now competing for Atoka High School, Brooks is determined to keep pushing his limits and make a name for himself in the sport.
Growing up, Brooks found inspiration in his older siblings, Lucas and Trinity Brooks. Watching them succeed fueled his competitive drive. “I was inspired by them coming home with medals and being able to showcase their athletic ability and be rewarded for it,” he said. That motivation continues to push him as he sets his sights on reaching new heights—literally. “My goal is 7 feet. I hope I can surpass at least 6’6 and hope I can stay healthy,” Brooks said, fully focused on improving his performance this season.
For Brooks, training is a key part of his success. “Weight room, running, and getting my legs stronger,” he said, outlining his weekly routine. His work ethic extends beyond his own personal goals, as he also sees himself as a leader on the team. “My role on the team is to keep working hard and to just push everyone to be the best they can be, to be a leader,” he explained. That leadership, combined with the team’s strong chemistry, creates an environment where everyone supports each other. “I would describe it as a very supportive team and full of hard-working people,” he said.
Despite his talent, Brooks has faced challenges along the way. One of the toughest moments of his career came during his freshman year. “The most challenging would be my freshman year overcoming the bar,” he admitted. But through mental focus and trust in his training, he overcame that hurdle. “I overcame it by clearing my thoughts and trusting the work I’ve put in.” That season remains one of his proudest moments. “My freshman year was the most proud I’ve ever been in this sport. I was proud because I had placed as a freshman,” he said.
Looking ahead, Brooks has big aspirations. “I see myself competing for at least the Olympic level or in a college,” he said. Outside of sports, he hopes to pursue business and possibly own his own company someday. Regardless of where life takes him, he knows that the support from his family, faith, and community will always be his foundation. “Community support helps me and gives me more confidence in myself to compete at a higher level,” he said. “I would like to thank God and my family for helping me and pushing me to be the best I can be.”
As he continues his journey, Brooks has simple yet powerful advice for younger athletes looking to follow in his footsteps. “I would tell them to ask questions and be consistent in working hard,” he said. With his relentless drive and faith in his abilities, Malachi Brooks is just getting started.
