Antlers’ Lauren Burrage – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Pine Cellular

Freshman year is full of adjustments, but for Lauren Burrage, it’s been more about embracing the opportunity than fearing the change. “Even though I’m just starting, I’m proud of how I’ve stepped into a new environment and stayed confident,” she said. “It’s not always easy being the youngest, but I’m giving it my all.”

Lauren, a standout freshman at Antlers High School, has been around the diamond for as long as she can remember. “I’ve been playing softball since I was really little,” she shared. “My parents have a love for the sport and began working with me when I was old enough to swing a bat. I fell in love with the game and have been passionate about it ever since.”

Support and inspiration are a huge part of Lauren’s journey. “My biggest inspiration is probably my family,” she said. “They’ve always encouraged me to work hard and keep pushing, even when things get tough. I also look up to older girls who have played for Antlers before me—they’ve shown what it means to be a leader on and off the field.”

As a multi-position athlete, Lauren takes her responsibilities seriously. “In fast pitch, I’m a pitcher, play third base and in slow pitch I play second base,” she explained. “The other primary role I have in slow pitch is to be a power hitter.”

One of her toughest moments came during fast pitch season. “The most challenging moment I have had so far is an injury during my fast pitch season,” Lauren said. “It was hard to overcome and battle through the pain, but my team needed me, and I didn’t want to let them down.”

Her dream is clear: “Playing college ball would be amazing, and it’s definitely a dream of mine,” she said. “But I’m also okay with simply continuing my education at the University of Oklahoma. Either way, I want to be doing something I love.”

When asked who’s helped her most, she answered without hesitation. “Definitely my parents, my coaches, my teammates, and Coach Zachry—he taught me how to not be gutless. I’m really thankful for all of them.”
