Antlers’ Colton Sorrells – Golf Spotlight – Presented by McCurtain County National Bank

Colton Sorrells has spent most of his high school career on the football field and in the weight room, but this year, he decided to try something new. “Football and powerlifting were the only sports I have played in high school up until now,” he said. Now, he’s embracing the challenge of the game and enjoying every round on the greens.

His journey into golf was influenced by family. “My brother was the main inspiration for me starting to play, but I have always had an interest in the sport as my grandpa played when I was young,” Sorrells said.

This season, the Antlers golf team has developed a strong bond, making every match and practice more enjoyable. “The team’s chemistry this season has been very well. We all know and like each other, and every trip, we make the most of it,” he said. “Have a fun time while getting to do what we love.”

One of the biggest challenges for Sorrells so far has been mastering the driver. “I’m not very good at it yet, and I’m still working at it,” he admitted. “But I hope to hit better towards the end of the year.”

Despite the learning curve, he’s already had some great moments on the course. “Probably the most memorable moment of the season so far for me was I was able to drive the green on a par four and make my first birdie,” he said.

Looking ahead, Sorrells plans to move to Florida after graduation. “In five years, hopefully, I will still be able to play the game of golf, most likely just for fun,” he said. “But if I get good enough, maybe tournaments. I will be moving to Florida to work for my uncle.”

No matter where he goes, he carries a deep appreciation for his community’s support. “I think community support is extremely important whether sports or other activities,” he said. “For me personally, it just puts more motive behind to go do well and represent where I’m from.”
