Silo’s Addi Tyner – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Ellis Stone Company

ADDI TYNER-SILO

It’s all about dancing for Silo High School senior Addi Tyner. And dancing has led to cheerleading for Addi who is the winner of the VYPE Ada/Pauls Valley area cheer poll.

“I was so surprised to hear that I won, I told my family when I was nominated, and they went to work to reach out to everyone we knew and they all said, ‘I’m voting for you’. I started dancing and cheering when I was about four and haven’t stopped,” said Addi.

“I’ve had her for six years now and she’s just amazing,” said her cheer coach Mishael Metheny. “She’s a natural leader and an incredible dancer who picks up new material so quickly.”

Addi dances with the Axis Dance Company competitively and she has performed at Branson, for Oklahoma City Thunder and Dodger games and at Disney World for two years. “In cheer I started cheering for little league teams when I was young and later helped my mom coach some teams and this year in school cheer, we qualified for OSSAA Game Day state,” smiled Addi. “I was so proud of our team. We worked out butts off during the summer with long practices two or three times a week.”

Addi says she has drawn inspiration from her competitive dance coach Megan Jorgensen.

“She’s very inspiring and know-how to maintain a positive environment and keep judgmental attitudes out of it. Coach Metheney here at Silo has also been a big influence. She keeps our team positive and in line and sets up a lot of camps and things to do and was a big reason we made state this year.”

As a senior leader this year, Addi has a good philosophy.

“You can’t think of yourself as better than everyone just because you have a captain title. You have to correct them in a friendly way and encourage them to get better no what their talent level.”

Dancing around the country and going to summer cheer camps has led Addi to the next step in life as she’ll join the staff at UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) this summer helping other high school cheerleaders get better and will continue that work as she attends Grayson College next year to study radiology.
