Atoka’s Jax Slade – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Pine Cellular

Jax Slade has been swinging a bat for as long as he can remember. “I’m a sophomore at Atoka High School and have been playing baseball for 12 years,” he said. His dedication to the sport has grown over the years, shaped by faith, family, and a strong sense of purpose every time he steps onto the field.
Slade’s baseball journey began with inspiration close to home. “My uncle was a ballplayer, and I wanted to be just like him. God is my biggest influence—I play for Him,” Jax shared. That spiritual foundation guides not only his play but his life.
While skill and strategy are crucial to a team’s success, Jax believes chemistry is just as vital. “Our chemistry is amazing. We are more than teammates—we are a family. We don’t fight or bicker, we love each other,” he said.
His role on the team is versatile and ever-evolving. “I’m a DH, first base, or right field. I play catch and work on little things before I play those positions,” Jax explained.
As for this season, he has one major goal: “To make it out of the regional tournament. It would be a great achievement.”
The Atoka team follows a steady routine. “We practice three days a week and have games on the rest of the days,” he said. But even with preparation, challenges can still come. “The most challenging part of my high school career was an error I made last year in the elimination game of the regional tournament.”
Still, the positive memories outweigh the setbacks. “A memory from last year was senior night. It was an amazing experience,” he recalled.
Looking ahead, Jax has clarity on his future. “I see myself not playing baseball anymore and pursuing life’s greatest challenges,” he said. “My plan is to study theology somewhere and become a pastor.”
He’s grateful for the ones who’ve helped him along the way. “I wanna thank my uncle for introducing me to this. And obviously the big man upstairs.”
