Durant’s Tucker Tonubbee – Golf Spotlight – Presented by Cherokee Communications

Golf didn’t always take up all of Tucker Tonubbee’s time—but once he found it, there was no turning back. “I am a junior at Durant High School. I started playing golf about three years ago and that is all I really do now,” Tucker said. In just a few short years, he’s gone from beginner to team leader, showing what can happen when passion meets work ethic.
For Tucker, it all started with his grandfather. “My grandpa inspired me to play golf at a young age. I have always grown up around it and I liked it. I also played other sports as a kid, but my love for golf overcame me,” he shared. “I would say my biggest influences are Casey Fernandez, Tiger Woods, Scottie Scheffler, my grandpa, and my mom and dad.”
Tucker believes his team is the strongest it’s ever been—thanks to the way they support one another. “Our team chemistry this year has been the best yet. We have made so much progress by encouraging each other and pushing each other to our limits to become the best golfers and people we can be.”
As captain of the boys team, Tucker leads both on and off the course. “My role on the team is being the boys team captain. I prepare for events by trying to decide what clothes to wear and tell my teammates what they should be prepared for. I report this information about weather from our coach.”
His biggest goal this season? “To make state as a team. I think we can do it if we all play our best and shoot some good scores. But if that doesn’t work out, I am going to try to play my best and go to state.”
That dedication shows in his weekly routine. “Monday and Tuesday I go to the course and practice for around three–four hours… then on the weekends I try to get two hours of practice before work.”
Tucker’s dream is clear: “My plan after high school is to go to UCO and be in their PGM program so I can continue on my golf journey.”
