ATOKA WAMPUS CATS

Coach: LUKE RING

2-8

OFFENSE

With a new head coach and a refreshed energy surrounding the program, the Atoka Wampus Cats are looking to take a big step forward this fall. First-year head coach Luke Ring is excited about the direction the team is heading. “We are excited about the progress the players made over this summer,” said Ring. “We have a group of experienced leaders and extremely talented players spread throughout each class.”

The Wampus Cats will be operating out of an 11-personnel spread option offense that looks to get the ball to playmakers in space. “We want to stretch the field horizontally and vertically, spreading the ball around and making the defense defend the whole field,” Ring said. That scheme will be powered by quarterback Zachary Jim (5-10, 170, Jr.), who will be joined in the backfield by Ezekiel Brooks (5-8, 165, Jr.) and Donte Harrison (6-0, 190, Jr.).

Wade McCall (6-1, 195, Sr.) returns at tight end as a leader on and off the field. “Wade is an amazing leader, dependable and gifted young man. He is always willing to go above and beyond for the team,” said Ring. The offensive line will be anchored by Thomas Pacheco (6-2, 275, Sr.) and Chris Finley (6-1, 255, Jr.).

DEFENSE

Defensively, the Cats are based out of a multiple-look 3-4 front and plan to bring the heat. “We play an aggressive style 3-4, trying to keep offenses uncomfortable,” said Ring. Expect to see plenty of action from defensive end E.J. Love (6-1, 242, Jr.) and linebacker Teagen Richardson (6-1, 210, Sr.).

The secondary is led by senior Kyzer Mullins (6-1, 180), with Malachi Brooks (5-11, 155, Sr.) adding experience at corner. Linebacker Kase Shores (6-1, 205, Sr.) is another senior who will be a force in the middle of the defense.

Coach Ring has his eyes on the future too. “Braylon Granger is a 6’8 300-pound upcoming freshman with amazing footwork and raw strength,” said Ring.

With leadership, talent, and buy-in from the players, the Wampus Cats look poised to turn a corner this season.
