COALGATE WILDCATS
Coach: ZAC CATER
5-5
OFFENSE
The Coalgate Wildcats are preparing for a physical and competitive season under second-year head coach Zac Cater. With several athletes stepping into new roles, the team’s identity is taking shape. “We are going to have a few guys having different roles this year. This is a tough, competitive group that we expect to be really physical,” said Cater.
One of the key returning playmakers is quarterback Colby Brown (5-10, 140, Jr.), who threw for 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns a season ago. Brown will be joined in the backfield by versatile senior Bryson Stowe (5-9, 150, Sr.), who is a threat as both a runner and a receiver. Last year, Stowe totaled 250 rushing yards, 100 receiving yards, and found the endzone four times. Sophomore Davis Grant (5-11, 150, So.) also adds depth at both quarterback and wide receiver, posting 500 passing yards, 200 rushing yards, and 12 touchdowns in 2024. On the line, senior Axel McNutt (6-0, 240, Sr.) brings experience and size to anchor the offense. Cater expects this unit to match the physical nature of the team’s overall identity.
DEFENSE
Defensively, the Wildcats will base out of a 4-2-5 formation and return six starters from last season’s squad. Leading the charge up front is sophomore Easton Loudermilk (6-3, 205, So.), who tallied 35 tackles, five sacks, and forced two fumbles as a freshman. Linebacker Kyler Woods (5-7, 180, Sr.) is a tackling machine who racked up 85 stops last year.
In the secondary, Davis Grant (30 tackles, 2 INTs) will roam at free safety, while Bryson Stowe holds down a cornerback position with 50 tackles and two interceptions last season. “Bryson is a very explosive player and has a chance to score anytime he touches the ball. We look for him to be a huge part of our team this year,” said Cater. With hard-nosed play and experience on both sides of the ball, Coalgate looks poised to take the next step this fall.
