Great teams often thrive when their leaders set the tone, and for Caddo junior Kayden Saige Prince, the mission this season is crystal clear. “To be the best teammate and leader I can be,” she said. And when it comes to personal goals, she’s aiming high. “As far as gameplay, I’m hoping to hit 1000 points.”
Caddo’s roster looks a little different this year, but Kayden says that change has brought great energy. “We have a few new girls this year so there’s a lot of excitement and friendly competition.” That excitement has already led to growth. “Working better as a team and learning how to play with each other” has been their biggest improvement so far.
Their season goal is as big as it gets. “Our team goal is to win a state championship,” Kayden said. And they’re doing everything possible to chase it. “We have been putting in a lot of hard work and extra time on our own to better prepare ourselves.”
One thing fueling their motivation is the hunger of teammates who haven’t yet reached the biggest stage. “A few of our newer upperclassmen haven’t experienced a state tournament yet, so that makes us even more hungry to get there.”
When Kayden reads a defense, it’s all about exploiting space. “If they’re playing back off, I’m looking for the 3, if they’re up on me I’m looking to drive to the paint.” Her physical preparation is just as intentional. “That’s when I rely on my strength training and fueling my body.”
Her mindset before tipoff? “Go be a menace.”
As for the legacy she hopes to leave behind, Kayden’s answer reflects both competitiveness and character. “I want to be remembered as a fun teammate, a good leader and someone who worked hard and left it all on the floor.”
Her favorite memory? That one’s easy. “In the locker room after beating Seiling in the semis to go to the state championship game.”
Kayden plays only basketball but stays busy with FCA, STU-CO, and FCCLA. After high school, she plans “to play college basketball and become an OTA.”
