Durant Lady Lions Soccer Team – Presented by RibCrib

The Durant Lady Lions girls’ soccer team enters the season with optimism and renewed focus under head coach Ryan Cook. “The Durant Lady Lions are excited for a new season of new opportunities,” Cook said. Reflecting on last year, he added, “We had an early playoff exit last year, but we returned many of our starters.” With experience returning, expectations are rising. “With a few adjustments, we are looking to further our playoff hopes this season and see how far we can go.”

Leading the way for Durant is Mia Ibarra, a senior expected to be a key presence this fall. Cook noted, “Mia Ibarra is a senior this year and will likely be starting in the midfield for us this season.” Her impact extends well beyond her position. “Her ability to connect passes makes her invaluable to the success of the team,” he said. Cook also highlighted her personality and versatility, adding, “She has a great attitude and always brings a bit of fun to the team atmosphere that keeps everyone smiling.” Ibarra’s experience is another strength, as “This is her second season as a starter and her fourth year on varsity.” Cook added that she is adaptable, saying, “She is also a capable keeper whenever we need her to fill that role for the team.”

Another key contributor is underclassman Riley Standifer, who is stepping into a larger role this season. Cook explained, “Riley is a young athlete who is coming into this season with a lot of energy.” Her development has been steady, as “She made varsity last year as a freshman and took on more of a relief role for the senior in her position,” Cook said. This year brings new opportunity, with Cook adding, “But now it is her turn to take a starting spot and make it her own.”

Durant’s resilience is embodied by Character Counts honoree Katelyn Mauck. Cook shared, “Katelyn is a senior this year and is very ready to get back on the pitch.” Her journey has required perseverance, as “She had a devastating injury right before the season kicked off last year and had to adjust to the biggest cheerleader role.” Her determination stood out, with Cook adding, “But she has fought her way back this season, even competing in the state cross country race in the fall.”

Senior Jaci Floyd adds leadership on the back line. Cook said, “Jaci is a very talented CB that is a leader both on the field and off.”
