Momentum can define a season, and for Durant senior Abrianna Freeman, that momentum starts with her own drive. “My personal goal this season is to make All State,” she said, a standard that fuels every drill, every rep, and every possession.
The Lady Lions have built a strong mindset heading into the year. “The team moral is focus on teamwork and communications,” Abrianna said. That approach has already paid off in visible ways. “The improving we have is our bonds and hard work.” Those tighter relationships, paired with a consistent work ethic, have strengthened both the locker room and the product on the court.
Their mission is clear and ambitious. “One of the team’s goals is to make it to state and win, and we are preparing for this by chasing perfection every time we practice or play.” That pursuit of perfection is reflected in their intensity on both ends of the floor. “The biggest strength we have is focus on offense and lots of pressure on defense and always having positive attitude.”
Anchoring the paint as the team’s center, Abrianna keeps things simple and smart when she has the ball. “I look to see if I will be able to score when I get it, and if I can’t I make sure I know where I can pass it to.” Her preparation is just as focused. “I prepare myself by eat good, plenty of sleep and water.” The mindset she brings every night is unwavering. “My mindset is to go as hard as I can all the time no matter what.”
Abrianna hopes her presence leaves a lasting impact beyond points or rebounds. “I want to be remembered as someone who never gave up and someone that you could depend on when needed.”
Durant’s chemistry is another major strength, and Abrianna sees it firsthand. “All of the players are really close with each other on and off the court.” Her hype song before games is “Headlines” by Drake, and her favorite moment in a Durant jersey is crystal clear. “My favorite memory in a Durant High School jersey is going to state my junior year.”
Abrianna Freeman, a 5-9 senior, plays basketball only. After graduation, she hopes “to play college basketball and become a physical therapist assistant.”
