Durant’s Addison Couch – Presented by Excel Therapy

Durant High School sophomore Addison Couch is a girl of many talents. In addition to cheering on the Lion teams, she plays the saxophone in the band and runs sprints for the track team.

“I like doing all three of those but I probably love cheer a little more because that’s what I grew up doing,” said Addison. “When I was little my mom saw that I was pretty flexible and got me on a cheer team when I was around four. I did competitive cheer for a few years and loved it because you got to do a lot of cool tricks and it was just really fun. Then I started doing school cheer in the eighth grade.”

A role model for Addison has been Gabi Butler who is a graduate of Navarro College, considered one of the top cheer schools in the nation.

“She’s on co-ed cheer team in California now and does a lot of YouTube videos that I watch. She’s a good leader and she’s really good on stunts,” said Couch, who is also a member of the Durant student council.

Her coach, LouAnn Lively, is high on the sophomore cheerleader.

“Addison is in her second year of varsity cheer and is one of our top tumblers and a good dancer.”

Couch says she enjoys a lot of the aspects of being in cheer.

“I really enjoy cheering on Friday nights and also when we do stunts and tumbling and jumps and just getting the crowd involved in the game. I have some dance experience too and we do some dances along with the band in cheer and that helps me a lot.”
