HUGO BUFFALOES
Coach: SCOTT SCHIER
2024 Record: 7-4
OFFENSE
After a strong 2024 campaign, the Hugo Buffaloes are charging into the 2025 season with big aspirations and key experience returning on both sides of the ball. “We’re looking to build off of a 7-4 season last year,” said head coach Scott Schier. “We have Jayka Santillan returning at quarterback—he’s started the last two years—so we’re looking for his leadership and experience to lead our Buffaloes this year.”
Santillan (6-2, 220, Jr.) is a dual-threat quarterback with great size and arm strength. Last season, he threw for 1,359 yards and 16 touchdowns with just three interceptions. “Jayka is a good leader on the field and in the weight room. He has a really strong arm and is athletic enough to make plays with his legs too,” said Schier.
Wide receiver Quincy Shelton (5-11, 170, Sr.) returns after a dominant junior season where he hauled in 41 receptions for 724 yards and 9 touchdowns. “Quincy is a leader on and off the field. He has tremendous ball skills and is an elite receiver,” said Schier. “Even while being double or triple teamed, he led us in receptions and yards. He also makes a huge impact in the return game.”
In the run game, sophomore D’Airreon “DK” Jeffries (5-7, 160, So.) is back after rushing for 762 yards and 9 scores. “DK runs with great balance and vision. He has the speed to break one at any time,” said Schier. The offensive line will be anchored by senior veterans Jayse Trantham (5-10, 230, Sr.), Jonathan Chavez (5-6, 195, Sr.), and sophomore standout Zane Allen (6-2, 245, So.).

DEFENSE
On defense, the Buffaloes return four starters with key playmakers ready to step into bigger roles. “We return 2 starters on the D-line, 1 linebacker, and 1 defensive back,” said Schier. “We have several role players from last year that are ready to step up as starters.”
Shelton also leads the secondary with 61 tackles and 3 interceptions. “He’s a game-changer on both sides of the ball,” said Schier. Senior Malakhi Edwards (6-4, 205, Sr.) adds strength at outside linebacker with 71 tackles last season, while DE Keyshawn Miller (6-2, 240, Sr.) and DT Chance Baker (5-10, 245, Sr.) control the trenches.
“This team is hungry to take the next step,” said Schier. “With experienced leadership and a strong group of returners, we’re excited to see what 2025 brings for the Buffaloes.”
