Hugo’s Da’Marion Ramsey – Presented by Security First National Bank

Although he professes to like both sports, when pressed, Hugo junior Da’marion Ramsey says football is really his favorite sport.

“I guess I like it a little more because I like to hit people,” he said, laughing.

He’s had plenty of chances to do that as a defensive back where he had six interceptions last year and also as a wide receiver where he had nearly 1000 yards receiving and eight touchdowns his sophomore year. Growing up, he says, he had friends who were playing that got him involved in football.

“In football I started in third grade, and I was a chubby kid so I played in the line and then became a tight end in junior high. I spent a year in Durant my freshman year and was a running back and then moved back here my sophomore year,” Ramsey said. “I’ve loved watching the Dallas Cowboys since I was about five years old. I enjoy watching CeeDee Lamb because he’s so smooth and catches really well.”

Ramsey got started in basketball watching his older sister play but says he didn’t really take it seriously until seventh grade and finally got his first start the year he lived in Durant and plays shooting guard for the Buffaloes. One of his role models has been Dallas Mavericks standout Kyrie Irving.

“I just like him because he’s really quiet and humble but so good.”

Ramsey says his mom has been a major force in his life.

“She’s a single mom who has always pushed me hard and really acts like a mom and dad together.”

Da’marion Ramsey plans to add track to his sports resume this year, likely running the 4X100 relay and doing the high jump.
