Hugo’s Hunter Sims – Presented by Jay Hodge Dodge

With the baseball season kicking off, Hugo senior Hunter Sims is one of three seniors on the Buffalo team that will be the heart of the squad according to coach Brad Greer.

“We’ve got three returning seniors  that will set the tone for us this year. We’ll go as far as our senior leaders take us,” said Greer, who has been with the program for three years but is stepping up to the head coaching role this year. “I saw Hunter for the first time his sophomore year. We went on a spring break trip to Alabama, and he wasn’t looking to get a lot of playing time that year. But we put him in during that trip and he hasn’t been out of the starting lineup since. He hit over .300 last year with 31 RBI and has really stepped up as a hitter, relief pitcher and starting outfielder. He’s poised to have a great senior season.”

In addition to baseball, Hunter also plays football for the Buffs as a tight end and linebacker but says he enjoys baseball more.

“I started playing T-ball and got better as I went to coach-pitch and I joined a local travel team and fell in love with the game. I enjoy watching college baseball and one of my favorite teams is Tennessee. They just look like they have fun playing and they have some swagger.”

Hunter shares the responsibilities of leadership with the other seniors on the team and knows what that means.

“I think a good leader makes sure everyone is doing what they’re supposed to and not jacking around during practice. I think you have to give it your all during practice because if you don’t do it there, you won’t do it in a game,” said Hunter who credits his dad with being his main motivator in sports and in life.
