Kingston’s Kinley Reeves – Cheer Athlete – Presented by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma

On the sidelines at Kingston High School, cheerleader Kinley Reeves is more than just a voice of encouragement — she’s a role model. “As a cheerleader, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to be a role model for younger students,” she said. “When I was younger, I looked up to the high school cheerleaders and admired them. Now, as a cheerleader myself, I’m constantly aware of the example I set, especially when I’m wearing the uniform. I strive to always be my best, both on and off the sideline, and to be someone younger students can look up to.”

That sense of leadership connects directly to the values that shape her identity. “I am a proud member of the Choctaw Nation. My heritage is a big part of who I am. Growing up, I have learned a lot about the values of being a Choctaw member such as strength, perseverance, and the importance of my community. I try to carry these values in everything I do, whether off the sideline or on it.”

Her cultural foundation gives her perspective during challenges. “I first got involved at a very young age by attending pow wows and other cultural events. My family always made sure I knew the Choctaw culture and the importance behind the culture,” she explained. “The culture, to me personally, means pushing through tough times, accepting and overcoming challenges, and always respecting the people around you.”

Balancing school and athletics is another area where her heritage plays a role. “One of the biggest values I’ve learned from my Choctaw heritage is the importance of perseverance. I strive to rise to any occasion presented every day as a student, whether it’s maintaining my 4.0 GPA, excelling in my concurrent college classes, or balancing my responsibilities as a cheerleader.”

Her gratitude for those around her is clear. “My community has contributed to my academic accomplishments by providing me with endless support. My family always helps me strive to be my best in everything I do. They show up at every event I participate in and always help me through tough times.”

Looking forward, Reeves is determined to carry both her cheer experience and Choctaw heritage into her next chapter. “After high school, I plan to either attend Southeastern Oklahoma State University or Murray State College to complete my basic courses. After that, I intend to transfer to the University of North Texas to pursue a degree in English. With this degree, I aim to earn my TESOL certification. My ultimate goal is to travel the world, teaching English to children of various ages.”
