Katie Nichols knows how to lead a crowd.
The senior at Silo High School is a side-base cheerleader. Katie picked up cheer out of her “love for learning new stunts, dances, chants and performing them.” It is her love for the sport and her cheer coach that pushes her to her best in all that she does that motivates her each day to pursue cheer.
Katie credits a lot of personal and physical growth to her coach, Mishael Metheny.
“Most don’t understand the amount of love and work she puts in behind the scenes,” Katie says. “She doesn’t get the recognition she deserves. We wouldn’t be the team we are without her. She holds us to high standards and accountability, and we love her so much!”
She has also been positively impacted by her mom and dad and says she wouldn’t be the athlete she is today without them.
“My biggest role models are my parents,” Katie says. “Not only have they given me more than I could ever ask for, but they set amazing examples of how to live life. My parents live life to the fullest and taught me to enjoy the little things and never take anything for granted.”
Her career in cheerleading has brought many highlights, but her favorite has been receiving multiple leadership awards at cheer camp.
“It’s my highlight because it means others view me as a leader after being with me for only a few hours a day,” Katie says.
As her senior year is coming to an end, Katie is thankful for the Silo community throughout the years, and she hopes to leave a lasting impact on the school.
“It is an honor to represent my school,” Katie says. “I hope I represent them well by demonstrating good sportsmanship and being a positive role model to others.”
