CANEY COUGARS
COACH: Jace Hollingshed
Record: 12–15
OUTLOOK
A new era begins in Caney as first-year head coach Jace Hollingshed takes over the Cougars program with a clear vision and a young, hungry roster ready to grow. “This is my first year at Caney, and my first year as a head coach. We are young, with only 2 seniors on the roster,” Hollingshed said. Despite the youth, he’s confident in the talent and versatility across the board — especially with several players returning to the court after a year away. “We have four new players playing this season, who did not play last year, who can help us compete. Our goal is to build a program and set the standard for Caney basketball.”
Leading the Cougars is senior Colby Hodge (5-10, Sr., Forward), a two-year starter whose unique skillset makes him one of the most intriguing players in the area. Hodge blends ball-handling and perimeter ability with strong post play, giving Caney a reliable option both inside and out. His strength and footwork allow him to battle in the paint, while his mid-range jumper stretches defenses. Defensively, he’s capable of guarding multiple positions.
Joining him in the frontcourt is junior forward Zayne Bagby (6-2, Jr.), a physical presence who will play an important role in rebounding and interior matchups. Junior forward Enicio Cataldo (6-1, Jr.) adds more size and athleticism to the rotation and will be key in helping the Cougars maintain energy and toughness inside.
In the backcourt, sophomore Zayne Ladd (5-6, So., Guard) brings quickness and on-ball activity, giving Caney a spark on both ends of the floor. Alongside him is underclassman standout Avery Dickerson (5-10, So., Guard), an explosive athlete Hollingshed believes has tremendous upside. Dickerson returns to basketball after not playing last season, but he has already impressed with his ability to attack the rim, knock down catch-and-shoot threes, and defend at a high level.
With a roster filled with underclassmen and emerging contributors, Caney may be young — but they are building something real under Hollingshed’s leadership. And as he puts it: “Our goal is to build a program and set the standard for Caney basketball.”
