Durant High School’s own Iyana Wilson is proving that dedication, talent, and hard work can go a long way. A junior who excels in both basketball and track, Wilson has already made a name for herself as one of the school’s most dynamic athletes.

On the basketball court, Wilson commands the game as a point guard. Known for her high basketball IQ and leadership, she takes pride in reading the floor and creating opportunities for her teammates.

“As a point guard, we have to read the floor and have IQ,” Wilson said.

Wilson’s play style is inspired by some of the biggest names in basketball. Athletes like Kaleena Smith, Isaak Hayes, Milaysia FuLwiley, and Stephen Curry.

“I have a similar play style to them,” she said. The creativity, confidence, and court vision they bring, that’s what Wilson tries to model in her own play.

Off the court, Wilson is just as fierce on the track. She competes in the 100-meter dash, 300-meter hurdles, and the 4×1 relay, where her speed and endurance set her apart. In both her years of competing, she has made it to state, a testament to her drive and consistency.

Wilson credits her growth and success to her mentors, Coach Tony Robinson, Coach Will Robinson, and Coach Priceare who have all pushed her to become not only a better athlete but also a better leader.

One of Wilson’s proudest moments came when Durant was able to host regionals. The team then won regionals and advanced to the state tournament for the first time in 16 years. History was made for the team, with memories that will last a lifetime for players.

Looking ahead, Wilson has big goals. First, she wants to continue her time on the court by playing college basketball and then, one day, reach the WNBA. For her, representing Durant means more than just wearing the uniform.

“Playing for Durant means carrying their spirit and name,” she told Vype Magazine. “It’s about making them proud and honoring the people who believe in me.”

With her dedication, skill, and determination, there’s no doubt that Iyana Wilson’s story is only just beginning.
