HUGO BUFFALOES CHEER

Coach: Angie Citty

OUTLOOK

“This team is crazy talented! They work so hard on perfecting their skills and push one another to be better daily,” said head coach Angie Citty. “They are also just as talented off the mat. They are the back-to-back state academic champions, and this year, we made school history by winning the regional championship and placing higher at state competition than ever. We lost the state championship by one point. It was both heartbreaking because we knew how hard we had worked, and exhilarating because we saw just how much we had grown, but we still walked away so proud of this team!”

Kayla Freeman

At the center of Hugo’s success is Kayla Freeman, an athlete who has quickly made her mark. “Kayla has grown so very much in the past two years,” Citty said. “She has only been cheering for two years. In that time, she has become a good flyer. She has endured and survived so many falls with so many different bases. She has grown into a pretty good little coed flyer. She is mature and works hard to be a good leader. She has a good attitude and is always willing to try a new stunt or skill. She hopes to cheer next year at the collegiate level. She also maintains a 4.0 GPA.”

Another key performer is Zaven Siniga who continues to impress both teammates and coaches across the state. “Zaven is already a star,” said Citty. “He seems to be known by other coaches wherever we go. He is a standout kid both on and off the mat. He maintains a 4.0 GPA and takes several honors and college courses as a junior. He has multiple college coaches talking to him, but his sights are set on following big brother Zion to cheer at OU. Zaven is an excellent tumbler, stunter, and jumper. He is an all-around excellent athlete, not to mention a fantastic team leader! He constantly asks to come to practice early or have additional practices to work on his skills. You will not find a better kid!”

Freshman Jakya Johnson is already turning heads as an underclassman to watch. “Jakya is a freshman but came to us with a great skill set already in tow,” Citty said. “She is an awesome tumbler and is learning to be an excellent flyer. She works so hard and is always willing to try anything new! Jakya is also a great student and maintains a 4.0 GPA. Watch for her in the coming years!”

Kacie Reynolds

Rounding out the spotlight is Kacie Reynolds, who embodies what every coach hopes to have in a leader. “Kacie is just one of those kids every coach dreams about,” Citty said. “She is respectful, coachable, such a hard worker, and literally the best kid. She maintains a 4.0 while taking honors classes and concurrent college courses, she is a strong Christian, and she is the best team leader, not to mention that she is also genuinely a sweet girl. She will be dearly missed by our team next year!!”
