Caney’s Morgan Darrell – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Highland Ridge Homes, Keller Williams Realty -SEOK, and J Squared Lawn Care

For Morgan Darrell, success on the softball field isn’t just about stats—it’s about becoming the best version of herself for the people beside her. “My personal goals going into this new season are to grow as an athlete but more importantly to grow as a team player,” the Caney High junior said.

A lot of that growth, she said, starts with the relationships her team builds beyond the diamond. “This team prepares differently by all collectively spending time together on and off of the field and putting their all into everything they do.”

As the season unfolds, Morgan has noticed a major shift in how her teammates respond to challenges. “Our biggest improvement as a team is everyone being able to adapt well no matter what position they’re put in or what team we’re up against.”

That adaptability, she believes, is key to reaching their biggest team goal yet. “Our team’s main goal is to win a state championship, and we’re going to all individually work our tails off to grow as players and spend as much time together to grow as not only a team but a family.”

Morgan sees the team’s unity and work ethic as their greatest asset. “Our biggest strength as a team is the amount of hustle everyone puts in and being able to consistently hit throughout our lineup.”

She contributes as both a shortstop and a catcher and brings a sharp eye for the game. “When reading a defense, I look to see if the corners are closer in, and I also look for gaps in the outfield and infield.”

To prepare for games, Morgan is intentional. “I prepare myself for long games by drinking a lot of water to stay hydrated, and also stretching a lot beforehand as well as during times in the game.”

Her mindset is as focused as her play. “Defensively, I’m constantly telling myself someone’s going to hit it to me, and I’m going over any possible play that could happen in my head. Offensively, I remind myself to be selective, and to wait on the ball to travel.”

“I want my legacy at Caney to inspire people to work hard and to do what makes you happiest even if it involves change,” she said. “Some people don’t realize how many hours of work this team puts into softball, and how much all of the girls respect each other and coach Jackie Dollerhide.”

Before games, she hypes herself up with “Cyclone” by Baby Bash and T-Pain.
