Caddo’s Bayler Black – Athlete Spotlight

For Caddo sophomore Bayler Black, consistency and leadership are what drive him every time he puts on a Bruins uniform.

“My personal goals this season are to continue developing as a leader, stay consistent in my performance, and do whatever I can to help my team succeed,” Black said. “I want to be dependable in my role and keep improving every day.”

That sense of responsibility is shared throughout the Caddo dugout, where expectations are high once again. “One of our main goals is to make it back to the state tournament and ultimately win a state championship,” Black said. “We’re working toward that by staying focused, practicing with purpose, and giving maximum effort every day.”

Black, who plays catcher, said the team’s greatest advantage doesn’t come from talent alone. “Our biggest strength is our unity,” he said. “Several of us play multiple sports together.”

Unity, he added, has helped create a winning mindset that pushes players to perform their best when it matters most. “My mindset is to stay confident, focused, and composed,” Black said. “I try to control what I can control and give my best effort on every play.”

That attitude, combined with determination, plays a big role in how Black hopes to be remembered at Caddo. “I want to be remembered as a hardworking teammate who always put the team first and helped build a winning culture,” he said.
Behind the program’s success, Black said there’s a lot that fans don’t get to see. “People may not realize how hard we work behind the scenes,” he said. “How much extra time we put in.”

Even as a sophomore, Black has already built a collection of memories as part of Caddo’s proud athletic tradition. “My favorite memory is from my freshman year when I got to experience going to the state tournament in football, basketball, and baseball,” he said. “That’s something I want to achieve again.”

Standing 6-foot tall, Black competes in football, basketball and baseball, and enjoys duck hunting outside of sports. Looking ahead, his path remains clear. “I would love to play college baseball,” Black said.
