Durant’s Jeremiah Adams – Teacher Spotlight – Presented by Simmons Bank

Jeremiah Adams has spent a decade helping grow Durant’s agricultural education program, and he still measures success by what his students become. “This is my tenth year at Durant ISD,” Adams said.

He shares both a classroom and a calling with his wife. “I am married to the love of my life Kayla who is also my teaching partner,” he said. Their three children are growing up in the Durant system he serves. “Riggin is 12 years old and a seventh grader at Durant Middle School. Tinley is eight years old and a third grader at George Washington Elementary. Dutton is four years old and keeps us all hoping!” Adams teaches a wide range of agricultural courses. “I teach eighth-twelfth grade in the areas of Ag Exploration, Ag 1, Ag 2 and Ag Power & Tech (welding fabrication),” he said. Before coming to Durant, he started his career in northwest Oklahoma. “Timberlake Public Schools in Helena, Oklahoma,” he said of the other district where he has taught.

He traces his decision to become an educator back to the mentors who saw something in him. “I decided to be an educator because of the influences my Ag teacher I had in high school (Richard Thomas) and my Ag Instructor at Murray State College (Brian Cothran) had on my life,” Adams said. “They both could see something in me that I couldn’t and encouraged me to pursue this career.” Another teacher also made a lasting impression. “To add one was my high school computer teacher Connie Fitch,” he said. “She pushed me in high school to be the best version of myself and to never give up!”

Away from school, the ag teacher lives what he teaches. “My family and I are heavily involved in showing cattle and rodeos,” he said. “We own and operate Adams Cattle Company, running stocker calves and providing farm fresh beef to our customers. We love living out the agriculture life!”

Faith frames his perspective on it all. “We are very blessed to live the life we live that God has made the way for!” Adams said. “Without him none of this would be possible! I am very honored to be selected for this!”
