Atoka High School’s Ty James has spent much of his life on the fairways, learning, competing, and refining his craft one round at a time. What began as a childhood pastime has developed into a true passion and a showcase of dedication—qualities that now make James one of the standout golfers in the Atoka program.
Growing up, James often found himself playing alongside older kids and experienced adults. That challenging environment accelerated his growth, pushing him to elevate his game and match the level of competitors around him. The experience also instilled in him a deep understanding of course management and an ability to stay composed under pressure—traits that separate solid players from great ones.

“Ty has grown up on the golf course,” head coach Eric Hardison said. “He has been playing with older kids and the old men for years. Playing with better players either forces you to get better or find another hobby. He has continued to grow as a golfer and continued to work on his game. As players get stronger and develop a little creativity around the course, they learn to hit shots to get out of trouble and find ways to save shots around the course and not magnify them. I feel that Ty is a solid, creative player that now needs to focus on the mental part of the game. He has shown he can win and compete in tournaments—now can he stay focused for 18 holes to do that in every tournament he tees it up in?”
Hardison emphasized that James has all the tools to play at the next level. For Ty, the next step lies in building the mental consistency needed to compete at his full potential every round.
With talent, creativity, and a growing command of the game’s mental side, James continues to be both a competitor and a leader for the Atoka golf team—and a young player whose best golf still lies ahead.
