VYPE: What first got you interested in tennis, and how long have you been playing?
Zaven Siniga: Tennis first started interesting me after I saw it on TV.

VYPE: What grade are you in, and what do you enjoy most about representing your school?
ZS: I am in 11th grade, and I enjoy being able to change our school stereotype and make it out of a small town.

VYPE: Do you primarily play singles or doubles, and what do you like about that role?
ZS: I prefer singles because I have a big serve, and I love to use it.

VYPE: What is one strength in your game that you take the most pride in?
ZS: I take a lot of pride in my strong forehand.

VYPE: What is something you’ve worked hard to improve in your game?
ZS: I have worked very hard to make my backhand better.

VYPE: Walk me through your mindset before a big match—how do you prepare mentally?
ZS: I tell myself I can and never think I can’t.

VYPE: Tennis can be very mental. How do you stay focused during long matches?
ZS: I just have to know to take it one point at a time and that I am statistically more likely to lose the point after I’ve won the last.

VYPE: What has been your favorite match or moment in your high school career so far?
ZS: My favorite match was when I played the 3rd place player at state last year. I lost; however, it was a great learning experience.

VYPE: Who has had the biggest impact on your development as a player?
ZS: My coach, who never lets me do anything less than my best.
